San Francisco Shaker set

My dad recently made a salt, pepper and mustard set for the Novelty Salt & Pepper Shakers Club based in the USA. It was for their San Francisco "Shakers by the Bay" club convention held in July 2008 and was a Limited edition of 300 sets. The salt and peppers nod as if in an earthquake!

He commissioned me to provide the illustrations for the front and back of the "postcard" on which the shakers sit. It was interesting as we had to come up with a limited colour illustration as each additional colour added a huge cost to the price of the transfers..... or so we thought.
We eventually discovered a new digital printing service that could reproduce hundreds of colours from a digital file at no extra cost. So in the end we could have had a more complex textured illustration, but it was good fun trying to work within a limited colour range.

Here are some experimental images I made during the process just using the colour separations I had created for the limited colour version.
