Here's another birthday card, this time for my gran, it's an altered version of the painting posted here a week or so ago. I've framed and cropped it somewhat.

Art Rage sketches

Just trying out Art Rage (which is free or $20), I have to say it simulates pencil better than anything else I've tried....

Wow Award, more info...
MANTRA WINS TWO AWARDS AT THE EDUCATION SHOW
21-04-2006
The 2006 "Education Show" was held at the NEC in Birmingham,UK. Mantra Lingua's "Little Red Hen and the Grains of Wheat" won the WOW award given by the National Literacy Association (NLA).The book "caught the panel's attention because of its sumptuous illustrations with their determined and joyful appeal which give the familiar text a resonance. Witty, with a juggling cat and a duck on stilts, this will be a favourite in primary classrooms. There is a helpful list of keywords in translation in every edition, so you get a literacy resource for two languages, great for multilingual classroom.

Promo Postcard
Here's my new promo postcard, back and front. I realised that I only contacted most of the publishers here when I'd just left college, so I thought it was about time to boast of my ten published books, multiple awards, stella reviews, enormous swollen ego/head etc... :)

Jesus Storybook Bible attracting a following
Family Pics and the Jesus Storybook Bible
This guy is starting a collection of photos of people reading the bible I illustrated, it's nice to see it out and about, in the wild, as it were. When you're working from home as an illustrator it's easy to forget that your books do actually end up in other peoples houses.

From the Archives Part I
This is the first post in a series of work from my archives, older stuff that predates this blog.
The work below I did at college, it was for a Grimm's fairy tale called The White Snake.

This image actually won an award, I was given a Highly Commended in the Macmillan Children's Book Awards 2003. I went all the way to Birmingham to be presented with a certificate and some money (I think), and to see my work exhibted with the other entrants.

Myron's Magic Cow Reviewed in Books forKeeps
Here's another review of Myron, not the best I've read but not too bad either.
"Myron lives in an apartment block with his impatient mother amongst the humble streets of what looks like a New York suburb. One day, on the way to the store to buy some milk, he is accosted by Goldilocks. She sells him an immense cow, purchased from a ‘dopey boy’ named Jack for a pack of beans, that she can’t fit into her car alongside her three bears. The rest of the story in this 40-page picture book describes the mildly amusing consequences.
The infiltration of reality by intertextually shuffled fairy-folk is common enough, and I wish the author had played the theme as ambitiously as the illustrator, whose depiction of Myron plodding along the sidewalk with a cow bigger than an elephant promises great things. I found the pace of the denouement equally pedestrian, but younger readers will be intrigued by the monstrous scale of Myron’s predicament, and by the potential of yet another fantasy icon introduced on the final page. GH"
