Christianity Today Reviews Jesus Storybook Bible

Christianity Today Magazine have reviewed The Jesus Storybook Bible and they love it! They say nice things about my illustrations too, here's an excerpt:

The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name disproves the adage that you can't judge a book by its cover.

Jago's award-winning cover art is a foretaste of the whimsically insightful and richly colored drawings that await you on every one of the book's 351 pages. The illustrations alone are worth the price of the book.

Did you ever wonder what Jacob's face looked like the morning after his wedding night, when he woke up in bed with a different woman than the one he thought he had married — Leah instead of Rachel? Jago did, and what he imagined and drew made me laugh out loud.

Jago the illustrator, and Sally Lloyd-Jones the author, are a good pair.....

John Scieszka - National Ambassador for Young People's Literature

One of my favourite authors, John Scieszka has been named the Library of Congress's first National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. Listen to a short interview with him, where he also mentions that his his newest book is the first book in a planned series of 50!

Cover sketches

Here's some cover sketches for my latest book, which is nearing completion....

More Greetings from San Francisco

Heres another experiment with a restricted set of layers and the addition of a texture... not an image I'd have arrived at directly. Will post the actual image this for when I have permission....

Greetings from San Francisco....

Just creating a colour separated version of a new illustration and discovered this interesting layer, looks a bit Chris Ware - like to me...

Moonbeam Children's Book Awards - Gold Medal

My Gold medal for the Moonbeam Children's Book Award that the Jesus
Storybook Bible won, has arrived! Huzzah! I've never won an actual
medal before....

It's really heavy (solid gold I expect) and came with a ribbon and
everything!

I shall wear it with pride.... all the time.

Chris Stonehill has a blog!

... and you should visit it! (click on the image below)

He's planning on posting new sketches daily, something I failed miserably at, let's hope he's better at it than me. I certainly look forward to seeing more of the same...

Big boat

Just a quick experiment...

Lord of the Flies

Here's a recent illustration for Lord of the Flies. Slightly different technique used here, incorporating some methods I used to use at college (dark tree like texture applied to whole image, then erased in a scribbly fashion with v small eraser brush).

Bible wins Gold at the Independent Publishers Moonbeam Awards!

Very pleased that the bible I spent a long time illustrating has won an award, (click below to read more about the awards). This coincides nicely with the book's 2nd print run, which brings the total number of books in print to 61,000!

Digital Scraper-board

I've never used scraper-board before but was inspired to do so after browsing Jim Bradshaw's (fellow SFG-er and excellent illustrator) new site and blog. He mentioned using Painter's scraper-board tool and I realised I never had, here's what I came up with:
